Looking back on 2011 and forward to 2012.

At one point the Catholic church in France tried to bury this Christmas song, but the French people wouldn't allow it. We'll look at the interesting history of this song and the beautiful message of hope in it.

Charles Wesley wrote this song in 1737. Wesley was pleased with the acceptance of his work. But when his college friend, George Whitefield published the song, he renamed it without consulting the author. Though Wesley was incensed, we have certainly been blessed by this song.

Almost 300 years ago, Isaac Watts wrote this song which expresses only a veiled reference to the birth of Jesus. This song reminds us of what still brings joy to life today and every day.

As Children of God we are blessed to share with the world who He is and what He has done for us.

What is the burden God has placed on your heart? We will look at why this is important and what you should do about it.

To be a follower of Jesus is to recognize our need for God and His people. So many people fail to recognize this. Not all Christians understand it either. This need is a gift that makes life so much more worthwhile.

When the Lord of the universe promises us anything, have no fears or doubt; He always comes through, often in remarkable ways. Trust what He says to you.

God wants you to enjoy giving to Him. How does this happen?

In our lives we put our trust in many people and things. Over time we realize that things will fail, and people are not perfect. Today as we start this series talking about Taking God at His Word, we need to realize that He is the source of our things. We need to realize that everything that we have belongs to God and He has entrusted us with what belongs to Him. Our trust and dependence on Him will lead to great rewards in our lives, but we must honor Him, and trust that He is the source of resources and He will provide for every need we have.

In the new movie, Courageous, four law enforcement officers find that the challenge of fatherhood is greater than the challenges they face on the streets. A tragedy forces them to realize that their jobs have taken precedence over their fathering. Will they continue to lose ground as dads or step up to a higher standard? This movie and message present a challenge to us all.

Prayer was so central in the life of Jesus. It’s so “on the sideline” in our lives. Is prayer really all that important if God knows everything anyway? We allow prayer to be marginalized when it can be so powerful. Let’s change this.

In our lives we come to times and situations that we cannot understand or comprehend why they happen.  Maybe it is situations in our family, in our friend’s family, our job, our school, or even in our country and around the world. Today as we come together we remember what happened in our country ten years ago.  We remember where we were and what we were doing that day, when we first heard the news of the unimaginable terrorist attack on our country.  Today as we remember and reflect, let us understand that we need to turn to God and His wisdom in the midst of the uncertainty in our lives. .

We know we should practice great care with what we say. So why can’t we do it consistently? Instead of rationalizing or making excuses like others do, let’s turn the mirror on the real problem and stop being fooled.

We're all pretty good about putting people in categories based on financial status, appearance, clothes, race, intellect, etc. If we're not careful, this will be the first step in playing favorites or treating some people better than others. This is strictly forbidden in Jesus' church. Watch out for this serious deception!

Trials often get our goat. We feel like we're being treated unfairly. We feel like God has forgotten us or doesn't care. What is God's perspective when trials come our way?

Parenting is not for sissies. Without some strong values in place, the family ship doesn’t have a strong rudder to shape daily life and weather the inevitable storms. Where do these principles come from? There’s an app for that!

As we continue our App series, today we will look at how God sees us.  Throughout our lives there are times when we feel like we are at the end of our ropes, we are overwhelmed, and we allow depression and self doubt to creep in and overtake our lives.  Sometimes we even doubt our self worth.  Today we are going to open Scripture to see how valuable we are to our Creator, how He sees us and what he desires us to do when we do not feel very good about ourselves.
