For The Generation is a podcast that discusses the various tactics of being a first-generation student. Essentially, our goal is to bridge a connection of first-generation students to the world. We hope to promote awareness of the community that these students have and create a comfortable space to share their unique individual stories . For the Generation will touch on a diverse group of students to embrace different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. With doing so, listeners will have an opportunity to get an up-close and personal view of the lives of first-gens

Immigration Justice: Part Two
07/04/2021 Duração: 54minIn this episode, we had the amazing opportunity to have a panel with Lizbeth Ramales, a fellow FTG student and Sociology and Chicanx/Latinx double major, and Marissa Montes, Director, and Founder of Loyola Law School’s Immigrant Justice Clinic. She built the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic in response to an unmet need for free immigration legal services on the Eastside of Los Angeles. She also teaches courses on Cross-Cultural Competency and Trauma-Informed Lawyering which brings law students to El Paso, Texas, during spring break to provide pro bono counsel to immigrants facing removal. In this episode, we'll discuss the current immigration policies that are incoming as well as provide advice for students who are undocumented. We hope this episode inspires other students to continue researching immigration policies and share information with college students who may be undocumented. Tune in to our next episode!

Post Grad Life in a Pandemic

In a generation where depression and anxiety are extremely prevalent. We had the pleasure of speaking to Gabriela Pineda, a registered associate marriage and family therapist, whose holistic approach is guided by an integrative framework in the Mind and Body Connection. The central focus of this episode is inter/transgenerational trauma. This type of trauma is passed down through generations that have experienced major and traumatic life events. Gabriela gives us an understanding of the complexities within family dynamics that contribute to this trauma. Gabriela gives us advice on how to deal with transgenerational trauma and how being a first-gen intersects with her profession as a therapist. Uncovering the First Gen Identity

In this episode, JC, Memo, and Megan uncover the struggles and strengths of being a first-gen student. They talk about the issues of imposter syndrome and survivors' guilt and how to overcome them as they are common attributes of being a first-gen. They also discuss the cultural capital that first-gen students have as well as other strengths and skills that come with this identity. Megan shares her experience and knowledge of how to deal with these issues and the skills that she has gained. These topics are found within the struggles of being a first gens. It's important to have these conversations so that other first gens can identify these symptoms. We want to create awareness of the struggles and celebrate the advantages and tools that they create on their own.

Although being a transfer student can be difficult when adjusting to academic and social life, it’s especially challenging when including the first-gen identity. Ultimately, our mission is to represent the under and/or misrepresented in higher education and establish a platform for those who are muted.
