Shepherds were pretty far down the social ladder. They were unnoticed by some and shunned by others. But angels sent from God reminded them that this Savior was for everybody and He came to bring a new sense of joy!

Joseph has been called the forgotten man of Christmas. But he was the recipient of the third angelic visit surrounding the birth of Jesus. In fact, the Bible records three angelic visits to Joseph. Each stirred his obedience in a new way.

God has a purpose for every life. From an angel Mary learned that some people are chosen of God to be special instruments for Him, but every life has a purpose. We look for dramatic things. God looks for servants.

Zechariah was well beyond child-bearing years, but still longed for a child. His hope was nearly gone. God sent an angel to Zechariah to bring unexpected news of a new hope. What do you hope for that seems out of reach?

Throughout history athletics have always been a big part of human societies. Sports and games are usually micro-views of the highs and lows, struggles and successes that occur throughout the courses of our lives. Many lessons have been and can be learned though participation in them.

What has Thanksgiving Day become for you? Is it only a day where you cram in as much family, food, and football as you can stand? Is it mainly a day to plan your shopping strategy for Black Friday? Or is it a day when you grow in the grace of thanks-giving?

How different Pilate's life would have been if he had taken the time to listen to this king and understand His kingdom! We are all ruled by something. Pilate was ruled by his desire to stay out of trouble and keep his position. But someday Pilate will kneel at King Jesus' feet. What rules you? Anyone or anything besides Jesus will make you miserable. There is lasting peace and joy only in His kingdom.

Staying connected is work. No wonder we celebrate long marriages. No wonder more and more of us live on the "electronic leash" to stay in touch with work, family, and friends. Nothing is more important than staying connected to Jesus. It's work too. How do we do it?

Ever find yourself troubled? Silly question, I know. These words were first delivered to a visibly shaken group of Jesus' followers. He understands and He brings help.

Light from the sun is essential for our existence. It provides warmth to sustain life and it provides light for our food crops to grow. Without light, plants couldn�"t complete the process of taking the carbon dioxide we exhale and create oxygen for us to breathe. Sunlight also directly affects us. It often affects our moods. After several power failures in our homes, we all keep light sources which don't need home current. Jesus came to provide light that we find nowhere else.

Eating is important to us. We build our schedules around it. So we can't really blame the ignorant crowd in John 6 looking for their "Bread Messiah." Though Jesus enjoyed a good meal as much as we do, He came to do more than keep our tummies happy. He came to satisfy us totally…forever.
