    09/08/2020 Duração: 11min

We crave instant gratification as we are able to get it in so many areas of our life. It is fast becoming our biggest weakness as it is leading to long term issues that we have to address. If you follow a fitness plan for a week or two you are often viewed on as weird! 2 weeks seems like a long time to be doing the same thing. And then walk in the people that have been eating a certain way for years and they are just look as as aliens.  Well long term commitment may well be what is missing for a number of people in life and this really is what needs addressing. Enjoy the show. Marcus

  • #651 Acai….why do people love it?

    26/07/2020 Duração: 12min

Acai, acaaaai, aci…..pronounce it however you like, consumption Acai is on the rise around the world, but what is it, where has it come from, is it good for us, how much can we have? Yup there are a whole load of questions around it which we dive into in this show, we let you know what you should be ordering and how often. Acai is a small fruit, round, and black-purple in color. The fruit became a staple food in floodplain areas around the 18th century, but its consumption in urban areas and promotion as a health food only began in the mid 1990s along with the popularization of other Amazonian fruits outside the region. The key to your consumption of Acai is all down to what you have it with, how much and how often! Enjoy the show.

  • #648 The future of the Olympic games

    16/07/2020 Duração: 37min

The first modern Olympics were held in 1896 but their traditions date back to the 8th century BC. It is an iconic event littered with tradition, hard work, records and emotions. Could that all be able to change as there are whispers of video games being included in future Olympics? In this show I discuss some thoughts around a recent article in the Economist which delivered some very interesting insights into the participation in video games such as Fortnite and Leave of Legends. I look into the rich and interesting history of the Olympic games, where it all started, why it only happens every 4 years and some of the popular and less popular sports that we see in the spectacle that is the Olympics. Maybe this is a change we need, maybe it is what the modern world looks like and maybe as new sports are added, others are dropped off it is time to include the sports, hobbies or pastimes that get the most attention these days. What do you think? Good? Bad? Let us know on winning@innerfight.com

  • #647: Developing an eating disorder by counting calories

    12/07/2020 Duração: 12min

We have known what calories are for a long time but even 15 or 20 years ago the thought of counting them and or weighing food in order to ensure that you get the right amount was not something the layman would consider. If you were an “athlete” then maybe but otherwise not a chance. Fast forward to today and everyone seems to know about counting calories, whether they are doing it correctly or not is another thing. At the same time the number of eating disorders we are seeing and generally poor relationships we see that people have with food is on the rise at a scary rate. So whats going on? That is the question we answer in todays show.

    09/07/2020 Duração: 01h10min

Sadly in December 2017 Alanna passed away but in the short time Keith ran with her they had a huge impact on many communities both in Ireland and further afield. What started as something they did together soon developed into something that would help Keith deal with being apart from Alanna as he explained to us “I had two choices and the world would have accepted if I chose to drown my sorrows but I didn’t I chose to keep running.” Since Keith has run a sub 3 hour marathon, completed the 173km Belfast to Dublin ultra, on Alannas second anniversary completed 100 miles on a 400m track and on 27th June ran 227km around an athletics track as he chased the Irish 24 hour record. In this show Keith speaks in detail about all areas of his life, lessons learnt and how he has overcome extreme adversity. Enjoy the show.

He won the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and the gold medal in the 5,000 metres at the 1974 European Championships and the 10,000 metres at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. The man is a legend and he is also on of our coaches (Rob Foster) Uncle so Rob managed to get him on a talk for our Endurance team. I loved pretty much every second of his talk and as I was listening back to it thought it would be fun to debunk his mindset so thats what I have done. Hope you enjoy the show.

    20/06/2020 Duração: 41min

People are afraid and that is understandable. For the last few months we have been confined to our homes and listened to the media tell us how dangerous and deadly COVID 19 is. But then in the next moment facilities open up and we are expected to hop back like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile the campaigns to get us back have been images of fogging machines and people in hazmat suits. It's no surprise people are scared of going out never mind exercising in gyms and high contact environments. In this show we look to the science of all this fogging and sanitization and leave a number of points that the general population can do to make this situation better. Hop on board folks as fitness is the answer.
