  • 278: Understanding the Gut Brain Axis

    13/07/2021 Duração: 14min

Did you know that…food is not always the cause of your GI symptoms? In fact, sometimes it has nothing to do with food and everything to do with your thoughts around the food. Today we are going to explore why this may be through a conversation on the gut brain axis.   I want to thank Marci Evans for her recent workshop that inspired this episode and is the reference for most of what I’ll share in this episode.   The brain is involved in so much aspects of your health. From how the digestive response is impacted by the gut brain axis, to how body image work is brain work, to even how the hypothalamus, the control center of your brain, is the reason your period can shut down if you are undereating and overexercising...it is TRULY fascinating to think about how our brain is involved in so much of what we think and feel and believe on a daily basis and how this may impact our health.   In this episode we dig in to the link of disordered eating and the digestive system and GI symptoms you may be experiencing throu

  • 274: What is Thin Privilege? (Repost)

    29/06/2021 Duração: 10min

Today’s episode is an important conversation that NEEDS to be in podcast form. I’ve touched on thin privilege on Instagram posts and with guests on the show, but I wanted an entire episode dedicated to the subject.   Here’s what I want you to understand about thin privilege: Your body image struggles are real no matter your size. Your experience and struggles are real and valid. But we have to be willing to look at our privileges in all situations, body image and how this impacts our relationship with food, included.   I used to promote myself as the “body positive dietitian” and I now realize how much of a mistake on wording that was. That was taking a movement that wasn’t created for me. And honestly ignorance on my part thinking me as a size 10 was not accepted. I hope this episode helps you see that your experiences are real and true and you are not alone in not accepting your body. Yet, as with any privilege we hold, it’s not your fault or something you should feel guilty about. It’s about recognizing
