310: Have a Missing Period? HA vs PCOS
02/11/2021 Duração: 11minThere are a variety of reasons secondary amenorrhea (a missing period for 3+ months) can occur, but the two most common reasons are PCOS and hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA). In today’s podcast, we will walk through the lab work and symptoms of both HA and PCOS, to help you understand the similarities and differences between these two common hormone conditions. If you have a missing or irregular cycle, I would HIGHLY recommend that you do investigative work, order more lab work with your doctor and talk to them about your symptoms, even consider a DUTCH test, so that you have a plan tailored to you and your needs. These conditions are very different yet have a lot of overlap! Need help getting your period back? We have a few spots left to work with us for anti-diet, gentle nutrition support for HA and PCOS at our virtual practice. Our online program specifically for HA recovery, Get Your Period Back Playbook, will reopen for enrollment in March 2022. Today’s episode is brought to you by our signature pro

308: How to Avoid the Restrict Binge Seesaw on Halloween Candy
26/10/2021 Duração: 09minHere’s what I want you to experience THIS Halloween. This Halloween you are happy, engaged and present with your food choices, yes- candy included. You enjoy the candy, but more than anything you enjoy your time with family and loved ones. This is possible for YOU my friend because this is what intuitive eating allows for in our lives. But I know you probably are scared to allow yourself to enjoy yourself. To really give yourself that permission to eat, especially foods like candy. I know, because I’ve been where you have before. I’ve been in a chaotic relationship with food. I’ve experienced COUNTLESS times the restrict binge seesaw. You know what I’m talking about, the seesaw of trying to control the thing you view as bad, or dirty, or too much sugar or too many calories. You try to control the amount you are allowed to eat, and maybe it works for a while, but inevitably you lose “willpower” and eat every piece of Halloween candy in sight. And sadly this only reinforces the idea that you cannot co

They went from being homeless, abused with self-esteem that was achingly low into the courageous fat activist and change maker they are today. Victoria helps people fall in love with themselves and is dedicated to shifting the way society views fat bodies. In this episode we discuss: How Victoria’s life has changed in the past year, including their gender transition story. How worrying about judgement from others prevents us from doing the work of body acceptance and intuitive eating. Mindset shifts we can make when we notice negative self talk and the people pleasing tendencies. How fatphobic beliefs had i

306: Stress, Perfectionism and Hypothalamic Amenorrhea
19/10/2021 Duração: 11minIf you’ve been listening to the podcast for any length of time, you know that in addition to intuitive eating and body image work, we also specialize in hormone and digestion disorders. The most common hormone conditions we work with are HA and PCOS. Hypothalamic amenorrhea or HA is extremely common, no matter your body size, when you struggle with orthorexia and disordered eating. This is why we talk so much about it, because there’s a huge gap in the hormone space about HA. I’d like to talk about aspects of HA today that is less well known or talked about, and that’s the stress connection to HA- and the main culprit of my community’s stress, which is perfectionism. Listen to today’s episode to learn more! In this episode I reference Get Your Period Back Playbook, our HA recovery program that will help you regain your health and fertility. This program will reopen for enrollment in March you can join the waitlist here. Resources for you: Learn more about our services at Nourishing Minds Nutrition.

304: Beauty Ideals and Body Image
12/10/2021 Duração: 08minIn this episode, let’s chat about beauty ideals and body image. Because today’s unrealistic standards for what is beauty, and the societal standards we experience, absolutely sets the stage for our own body image beliefs. I mean how could it not? Sit and think about this: what are the images of women you saw growing up? What did they look like? I know for me it was Barbie dolls and princesses on Disney. What were your mothers or other adult women around you talking about as you grew up? For me, dieting and controlling food and our bodies was just the norm of what conversations among women looked like. Listen to today’s episode to learn how beauty ideals impact your own body image, and the differences between self expression versus self objectification. In this episode I reference the books: The Beauty Myth, Invisible Corset and More Than a Body. Today’s episode is brought to you by our signature program, Food and Body Peace Playbook (FBPP). 302: Goals as a Dieter vs. Goals as an Intuitive Eater
05/10/2021 Duração: 13minToday I want to talk to you about the differences between how we set goals as a dieter, versus how we set goals with intuitive eating and body image work. Because I could imagine, for some of you, this is actually what’s holding you back and keeping you stuck- unable to truly move into your intuitive eating journey. Setting goals as a dieter tends to be short term and weight or appearance based. Even if it is health related, it tends to have a weight equals health approach, and still comes back to weight loss. Yet I find that setting goals as a dieter rarely leads people to actually feeling as if they’ve created sustainable health habits that stick. Rarely do people create health habits that they will have for the rest of their lives through dieting. Honestly, I find dieting tends to do the exact opposite. It tends to make people hate eating vegetables because they force themselves to eat only raw carrots and steamed, unflavored broccoli. So they think that all vegetables lack flavor. Dieting tends to
