It’s Eli’s view that Paul only wants to do another Price of Shite segment again this week because he’s desperate to catch up on P’twings. Not true. Paul picked another Price of Shite selection because his bedroom is full of PO Boxes, and he wants to make some ruddy space! No matter who you believe, at least Paul and Eli are pitted against each other this time, making for yet another hotly contested round of the age old CheapShow favourite! It’s packed with tat, crap, and a few things of genuine interest too. Less interesting are the snacks vying to get into the illustrious Snack Palace. It’s an emotional rollercoaster this week on CheapShow with bitter rants, over-excited expostulations, sober moments of clarity and confusing arguments! It begins with Eli desperately trying to cram another new character in the show and only gets more unhinged from there. Paul is not impressed with Eli’s increasingly poor creative choices and there is going to be tears before bedtime, or at least by the end of the episode. In Charity Shop Showcase, Eli has sourced two very unusual discoveries for Paul to peruse. Whilst one of them is conceptually very confusing, the second one tickles all of Paul’s fancies. Paul reopens his candy store this week and invites Eli in to sample his latest sweet offerings. Surprisingly, they’ve never covered jellies before (or jams, if you prefer) and they thought they’d look for the cheapest to see if they pass muster. Will a Vimto or Slush Puppie jelly be any good, or will they be embarrassed by the Hartley’s brands? CheapShow intends to find out! The League of Snacks (and Crisps) is dead! Long Live “Snax Starz”, the exciting new replacement segment for 2023! It was meant to be a simpler premise, but as ever on CheapShow, things get complicated, and all of a sudden there are snack palaces, anthropomorphised crisps and a pool house. This week’s inductee is the much-requested Doritos Burger King Flame Grilled Whopper flavour. As you can imagine, it goes about as well as expected. Eli has some brand-new Tales from the Dance Floor stories to tell and to say Paul is unimpressed is a major understatement and rubs him up the wrong way. Finally, Eli is excited to head back to the Country Urban Noodle Test Lab Kitchen with a cheeky little noodle he’s been dying to sample. After the disastrous events of last week, things return to normal for this week’s episode. Whatever normal means. They investigate Hanna-Barbera inspired rap, endure some space themed disco, and then brave the contents of “The World’s Worst Record Show” album, that has some truly troubling tracks. After the excitement of last week’s live episode, Paul and Eli are feeling a little burnt out. To combat these blues, they decide to dive into a particularly liquid edition of the show. For some strange reason, Paul and Eli have decided to take CheapShow out of London and perform a live show at The Leicester Comedy Festival. They swore they’d never go back to Brent Cross. After their first adventure (Ep 104 Malltwats), Paul and Eli agreed that there was never going to be a reason to return. What would be the point? However, when they discover that the Brent Cross Shopping Centre now has a “Charity Supermarket” within its walls, it looks like CheapShow has no choice but to go back. They should have stayed away. What begins as a merry jaunt into North London, VERY quickly gets derailed and becomes one long disaster. It’s an episode of confusion, confrontation, and frustration. Paul is ready to record another thrilling episode of CheapShow this week, but Eli forgot to tell him he doesn’t have the time. He’s off to Florida (again) to visit his family so he can’t record a full edition of the pod. Undefeated. Paul whips out his time machine macguffin and hops between the present (or the past, as of the recording) into the future (or the present… It really doesn’t matter) to see if Mr Biffo is interested, once again, in taking on a timey-wimey Price of Shite. This (last) week, the POS items come from a PO Box delivery and contain three cute charity shop curated curios. Both Mr Biffo and Eli will evaluate these items and guess the price, but which one will come out victorious? Only time will tell. Get your taste buds ready, because Paul and Eli are going to be noshing on a range of tongue-tingling yet sometimes stomach-churning cheap eats! There has been another delivery to CheapShow HQ and this one is packed with delicious, unusual jelly candies. In fact one is so unusual, more time is spent playing with it than eating it. It’s an odd mix of gummies that apparently want to be toys more than edible treats. Luckily, this must mean that there is a new Froth Shop opening! Huzzah…sorta! There is a return to a “Tales from the Shop Floor” when Paul recounts a recent strange encounter in a local charity shop. Luckily, the incident makes for a good story and a nice little Lego discovery. Finally, it’s another “Noodle Pot Blitz” to end the show. After some online badgering, the cheap chaps cave in and purchase a “Donor Kebab Pot Noodle”. Will it surprise them with its tasty goodness, or will it be hot, sloppy muck? Well, it’s a big plastic tub filled with plain crisps and comes with an assortment of flavours to sprinkle on. It’s basically an elaborate “Salt N’ Shake”! Will Paul and Eli embrace this strange service, or will they reject its advances? In the Silverman’s Platter, Eli unearths a McDonald’s branded vinyl album that encourages children to count and spell along with Ronald and his wacky friends. It’s… odd. One last thing. YOU send your PO boxes to us, and WE (eventually) get around to opening them! This week, Paul and Eli dive into a delivery from Canada which is packed with items that will both tickle and torture their taste buds. From sumptuous snacks to flaming hot Mac n’ Cheese, there are cheap eats aplenty ahead. There maybe a bit too much to gorge on. Luckily, Paul has pulled out another parlour game called “You Be The Judge” that gives them the chance to flex their legal skills. As you can imagine, it doesn’t go all that well. This would usually be more than enough for an episode, but there’s a lot more to enjoy! Every now and then it’s good to change things up and break free from the old routine, and Paul is excited to do that this week, because he has a brand-new segment to show off. He’s called it the “Charity Shop Showcase” and allows them the chance to talk about charity shop items that may not fit into the show’s usual fun and games. Eli admits it’s a strong new segment, but the merriment won’t last long. It’s the start of another year. As 2023 rolls in, Paul just isn’t in the mood to go back to making podcasts. As a result, Eli is going to have to do something a little different this week to get Paul in the right frame of mind. What Eli has planned is to have Paul, in a twist to the usual format, take the blind taste test challenge in a round of Off Brand/Brand Off… Or is it Brand Off/Off Brand? Ash Frith brought a few “knock off” gummies to the Xmas party, but now the cheap chaps have the chance to test them against the real thing. Will Paul be able to guess the Percy Pigs from the Leo Lions and the Twinnies from the Squashies? It’s that time of year again! It’s the 4th Annual Office Christmas Party and Paul has made a BIG effort to make sure it’s the BEST office party to date. Paul wants it very “blokey” and so he has invited Ash Frith and Mr Biffo along to join him and Eli for a night of drinking, swearing, rude games and maybe even a sexy Santa stripper! Unfortunately, Mr Biffo has brought Sanja along and so things start going wrong very quickly. Eli is violently in need of a drink, Biffo can’t wait to ruin Paul’s fun, Ash can’t drink and begins to suffer greatly as a result and Sanja is trying to get TOO into the “macho” atmosphere. They consume cheap Xmas themed snacks, a very low budget Christmas feast, way, WAY too much booze and they’re locked in a remote log cabin on a very snowy day. As the year trundles to an end, there is a little bit of business Paul and Eli need to clear up before next week’s depressingly annual office Christmas party. Unfortunately for CheapShow, the newly established Podcast Authority Bureau are demanding answers and it’s up to the Cheap Chaps to take a mini deep dive into their own history to fill in a few gaps in the P.A.B’s database. It’s common knowledge that Paul and Eli are unorganized cretins, so how are they going to come up with the answers when they can’t remember what p’twing happened when and what was an off-brand item, and which one was on-brand? Luckily, they receive an email from someone who had a lot of time on their hands. With a little help, Paul and Eli may get all the answers they’ll ever needed. If they can keep their s*** together that is, which may be a problem as Paul is ill and Eli is exhausted and delirious.. As the year rolls to an end, Paul and Eli decide to cram in one last walkabout adventure that will eventually push them a little harder than they were expecting! After discovering something called “The Celandine Route” they decide to take on all twelve miles of it in four hours, despite the guide suggesting it will take six. Can they pull it off and also attempt a modular, al fresco Price of Shite that Paul has procured? As you can imagine, it’s not going to be as easy as the Cheap Chaps think. Along the walk, which follows the River Pinn through green spaces, conservation areas and wildlife retreats, Paul and Eli will argue, complain, rage, laugh and annoy each other every step of the way.
