Things were said, regrettable actions were made and as a result, we feel we have let you all down. We ask that you take this episode as an example of what not to do in a podcast. After the last few weeks of hardcore retro TV nostalgia, Paul and Eli are back to doing what they do best… Whatever that is! This week, Eli was promised snacks and noodles, and this is exactly what he is getting. There are unusual snacks to enjoy, odd drinks to try and not throw up whilst drinking and a trilogy of cup noodles to slurp down. Eli is over the moon. Paul, as ever, not so much! He does not care for the snacks, can’t keep the drinks down and all he wants to do is crack wise and create another batch of horrible new characters. Last Week Paul and Eli pulled apart what made Tiswas and Swap Shop work, and this week it’s part two of their Saturday Morning Showdown! The 2nd generation of kid’s breakfast TV shows were Number 73 on the ITV regions and Saturday Superstore from the BBC. Both are very different to each other, and in some respects, from the trailblazing programmes that came before them. The question is, “Which is the ULTIMATE show?” Will nostalgia cloud our opinions or has distance made us more critical? Which one has Sarah Greene in? That will probably be the best one. Ahem. The Cheap Chaps have amassed another collection of clips to review as well as some of the purchasable merchandise that came with the shows at the time of broadcast! You can expect tie-in books, novelty songs and even something lovely to pin to your lapel! For kids of the 1970s through to the late 90s, Saturdays were defined by their morning children’s TV programming. Whether it was BBC or ITV, you could expect 3 hours of cartoons, interviews, games, prizes, sketches and all kinds of edutainment. This week on CheapShow, Paul & Eli decide to find out which of the early, classic shows was the best. After scouring charity shops and auction sites, the Cheap Chaps have collated a collection of Saturday Morning TV tat, from books to novelty records! Based on the quality of this merchandise, they’ll decide which show reigns supreme. However, there is a problem… There is TOO much to talk about and investigate, so they’ve decided to split this quest into two parts. In Part One, Paul & Eli will look at the pioneers of those early broadcasts, Tiswas (from ITV) and Swap Shop (from the BBC) and see what they had to offer. It’s a question that’s often been asked in CheapShow’s 6 years of existence, “Who is more stupid, Paul or Eli”? This week the answer can finally be revealed because that answer is “Both of them. We're back! To celebrate the start of a brand-new year, CheapShow has decided to make a very special podcast. This week, to celebrate its 40th anniversary (ok, we just missed it but...) Paul and Eli are taking to the streets of Northwest London to try and track down the locations of a film no one has probably even heard of! In 1981 a TV movie called "Dangerous Davies" was broadcast, starring Bernard Cribbins, based on a series of barely popular books. As it turns out, it was filmed in the area Eli grew up, so he decides to use this expedition as an excuse to revisit some of his old childhood haunts... and Paul has to put up with it! It's entirely possible that Paul and Eli may have had too much coffee, candy and soda this week, which may explain their volatile behaviour, but that's not really an explanation.
