It’s a scorching hot day so Paul and Eli decide to skip recording the podcast and take themselves out into the wild to get up to some mischief. In the great tradition of mucking about in the woods, the cheap chaps are trying to recapture those naughty adventures from their youth. They plan to smoke ciggies, drink cheap booze, look for a place to call their “den” and, of course, search for a pile of disregarded porn mags. As with most walkabout episodes, things don’t go according to plan. Along the way they get lost in a cemetery, take abuse from little old ladies, reminisce halcyon days, make toxic cocktails, have a meltdown in Tescos, dangle from trees and make an utter show of themselves. Who likes the Silverman’s Platter segment of the podcast? You’d better, because it ain’t a segment this week, it’s a whole ruddy episode! It’s time, once again dear listener, to tackle some more cheap instant noodles, but this week, Paul and Eli may have literally bitten off more than they can chew. Every now and then, an episode of CheapShow comes along that is “nice” and “lovely”. This is one of those rare episodes where Paul and Eli aren’t at each other’s throats (too much)! After getting lost in the woods for two episodes, Paul and Eli are back doing what they do best. Whatever that is! Long time contributor Ivenne has sent the cheap chaps a box of goodies from Norway (and Sweden) and it’s packed with sauces, tat and candy. Eli doesn’t need an excuse to talk sauce, so he is rather excited about the Lee Kum Kee Cooking Sauce collection as well as the lemon grass siracha and Vietnamese soy sauce. Paul? He isn’t excited at all. Things improve when its time for a European Price of Shite, with items obtained from Norwegian charity shops. For Paul, he is most excited by the folk cassette that Eli promptly ruins with his improvised, horrific lyrics. The Quest Master returns! In yet another thrilling “walkabout” episode, Paul and Eli go exploring the woods of North London and take on 4 cheap challenges. It’s an adventure so big/drawn out, that it had to be split into two episodes! The journey begins in High Barnet and takes the cheap chaps on an escapade that goes off the rails before it begins. It also doesn’t help that they quickly get lost and must back track to return to the trail. It’s an episode packed with cheeky dogs, arguments, indecent proposals, a chocka hungry goblin, a nappy obsessed knight, a few painful accidents and an “Off Brand/Brand Off” that could be a lot more difficult than it first seems. To make things spicier, there’s real cash on the table for Eli to win, so The Quest Master has made the challenges a little more difficult as a result, which please Paul greatly. It’s a packed podcast this week as Paul and Eli dive into a range of unusual books and even weirder novelty records! In “Paul’s Page Turners” the gents briefly judge a book by its cover, absorb the wit of 50-year-old toilet graffiti and find out why coffins once had to have armed bodyguards! Sadly, Paul finds room to add a new character. Eli remains unimpressed. Later in the show, “Silverman’s Platter” unearths a strange old 7-inch record recorded by proud Bristolians from the 1970s. There is also the strange case of a rare promotional book and record that not only gives us an odd adventure with Captain Birdseye, but also a collection of frozen food themed shanties. After the high drama of last week’s Derek finale, it’s very much back to basics for Paul and Eli this week on CheapShow. To bring some stability to the format, they opt to indulge in some Cheap Eats and Price of Shite action. At no point do two new, awful characters appear, destined to be forgotten about. Not at all! In Cheap Eats, Messrs Gannon and Silverman tackle a rather unsatisfactory brand of strongly flavoured Sunflower seeds and guzzle down Gingerbread flavoured Mountain Dew. It was all going so well until Eli pulls out an impromptu Sauce Report and Paul goes on a silent protest. The Price of Shite brings along a selection of weird and wonderful charity store sourced items ranging from the pointless to the fascinating. It at least gives Gannon a chance to do a Scottish accent… Sadly. It’s a thrilling finale to the game of tat and one where Poindexter gets pulled into the action too! Sometimes it’s fine to have a silly, throwaway episode, and this episode is about as throwaway as they come. For a few weeks in March, Eli escaped the UK to visit his family in Florida and Paul thought it would be a great idea to give him a portable recording device. You know, so Eli could record his adventures in America. Turns out it was a terrible idea. In a time-hopping edition of CheapShow, Paul is hopping backwards and forwards in time to challenge both Eli and Mr Biffo to a game of The Price of Shite. Why? After the meltdown of last week’s episode, Eli still harbours a grudge and wants his damned 7 p’twings. Paul, however, has no interest in giving them, and worse, he seems to not want to play ball all episode. To make things much worse, there are men at work outside the House of Sausage & Mash and it’s causing quite the distraction.
