Suffering is something that we as Christians grudgingly admit is part of life following Christ. We know that Scripture speaks about it and we know Christ endured it. Yet here in the first chapter of Colossians, Paul speaks about rejoicing in suffering. REJOICING?!?? Really?? That would seem to be very difficult. In Luke chapter 10, we find Jesus in an encounter with a lawyer asking some pointed questions about life and the hereafter. It's very easy for us to consider ourselves better than this lawyer since he seems to be so set on justifying himself. But if someone looked at your life, would they say that Christ reigns supreme over your existence? Is Christ truly preeminent over all that you do? Chapter 1 and verses 15-20 in Paul's letter to the Colossians challenges us to recognize the completeness of Christ's reign and rule over all of creation, including our own hearts.

Do we really know what the glory of God is? Do we know what it means to live a life that is glorifying to Him?
