It's a taxing time for the Hillsborough County school district, the nation's eighth largest — and not just in the literal sense of the word. In addition to pursuing a local sales tax increase via voter referendum, itself a contentious issue, the district is poised to lose three of its superintendent's four leading defenders. As residents question the district's credibility, its leaders weigh carefully the next steps.
