As we examine both chapter 3 and chapter 4 of Nehemiah, we come to a time of testing for Nehemiah and the people who have given themselves over the great work of rebuilding. We see in ch. 3 the diverse effort from many different groups. Then in ch. 4 the enemy makes a stand and challenges the veracity of the task.
