  • Episode 64: Death at a Funeral (2007) and Review

    23/04/2017 Duração: 01h23min

This week on the Geekdown Podcast, Jord and Cait go funny and bring each other comedies, well sort of. Join them as they explore the 2007 British comedy (you know who brought that) Death at a Funeral, and the recently concluded dark comedy series Review. Also this episode, an important development in the state of snacks, more details about the forthcoming contest, lots of chichat, minute news and an acute lack of an Idris Elba Update. And, as always, more! Thank you so much for coming to hang out with us each week, it means so much! If you would like to continue to hang out and want to support what we do please consider visiting our Patreon page at patreon.com/geekdownpod and contributing financially (apparently I need to stop saying give us money). • Episode 63: Hip-Hop Family Tree and The Third Man

    18/04/2017 Duração: 01h38min

Continuing our ongoing series of very uncomplimentary things, this week we look at the Eisner Award-winning graphic history of hip-hop, Ed Piskor's Hip-Hop Family Tree, and get into some postwar Vienna with 1949's film noir classic The Third Man. How could that have possibly gone? Also this ep! We remember Charlie Murphy, talk some outside-the-ring nonsense from the world of pro wrestling and get back into Cait's Astronomy Update. Also gobs of chit chat and an important addition to Jordan's social calendar. Thanks for listening, friends! 10/04/2017 Duração: 01h24min

The thaw seems to have finally arrived in Toronto, and the change in weather has your new BFFs eager to lounge out by a breezy window with a fancy caffeinated beverage and a good book, so it's Comic Book Club on the show this week! We're looking at the art-deco high fantasy of Monstress from Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda, as well as Mark Russell and Steve Pugh's eccentric take on the modern stone age family, 2016's reimagining of The Flintstones. Surprises surely await. Also this ep! Chit chat, bad times for Ghost in the Shell, people at Marvel continue to say silly things and some bold snacking declarations that are sure to lose us listeners. 04/04/2017 Duração: 01h20min

It's the Asian Cinema Hour on the Geekdown this week as your new BFFs check out the slapstick sports stupidity of 2001's Shaolin Soccer and Ran, the final epic by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. How'd that work out? You know where answers are. Also this ep! Ghost in the Shell blows it; Marvel blows it, too; intriguing director announcements and rumours, snack talk and we cross our first goal off the Patreon list. 27/03/2017 Duração: 01h11min

It's our 60th episode. We felt we needed a subject worthy of that milestone. The highest-grossing anime movie in history oughta do it. Also this ep! We sip some weeb tears, are taken aback by Power Rangers and underwhelmed by the Justice League, mourn Especia and look at Dave Chappelle's complicated return to televised standup. Plus chit chat! 19/03/2017 Duração: 01h20min

A bizarre set of items this week (but what else is new) as Jord and Cait each bring in something that might not be considered their favourite, but they're curious enough to wonder what the other thought, specifically about 2006's postwar suburban zombie satire Fido and one of the stranger offerings from Marvel's X-Men office, 2011's Wolverine & The X-Men. How was that? Answers where they've always been. Also this week! Touching base on Jordan's constitution, Mulan is not musical, Iron Fist is meh, the 6ix God returns to save us again, we remember Bernie Wrightston and updates to what we've been checking out. • Episode 54: Cagliostro Castle and Butch & Sundance

    12/02/2017 Duração: 01h22min

Jordan's near death! Caitlin's on drugs! But we still bring you an hour and change of solid hangs with your new BFFs because we know it's what you need. It's lovable rogue week on the Geekdown as Jord and Cait swap eerily synchronous landmarks of their individual geekeries, starting with the young Hayao Miyazaki's take on master thief Lupin III in "The Castle of Cagliostro," then getting swept away on the handlebars of the charm bicycle that is the classic Newman/Redford Western "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid." How'd that go? Answers, yo. They're inside. Also this ep! Blessings from The Queens, Magic Schoolbus back, Caitlin has ties to Star Trek leaks, and updates on all the things including Legion, Riverdale, Scum's Wish, Batman vs. Robin, the Michael Bolton Valentine's Special and soooo much more. • Episode 53: The Anniversary Mailbag!

    07/02/2017 Duração: 01h42min

In January 2016, Jordan asked his good friend Caitlin to start a nerdy podcast with him. Over the next 52 weeks the duo were run out of a library, grew closer as friends, sweated their literal and metaphorical balls off and watched more anime and UKTV than either of them probably wanted to. And there's no way they'd rather spend their first anniversary than by answering your questions. Their shotgun lack of planning had nothing to do with it, they assure you. Also this ep: Cait wants more Austen, Jordan thinks anime fans are babies, we pray for Gohan and all the updates you need. Thank you to everyone who wrote in, and continues to listen to us natter on. We hope you stay with us for Year Two.

  • Episode 52: The Good Place

    31/01/2017 Duração: 01h08min

Shorter episode this week as Cait and Jord settle in for a watch party of "The Good Place," the sitcom about ethics and morality that recently wrapped its first season from the folks that brought you "Parks and Rec" and "Brooklyn 99." Did it reach the standard set by those previous projects? Only one way to know. Also this week! Nothing, really. Kind of light on the news front, but you still get some good hangs from your new BFFs as we throw our hands in the air at the state of the world and check in on some of our regular viewings like DS9 and Terrace House. Next week is the 1 Year Anniversary Show! You'll know how spectacular it's going to be as soon as we do! Thanks for listening, friends!

  • Episode 51: 1980s Sherlock and 3 Mics

    24/01/2017 Duração: 01h29min

Nobody manages to make dissimilar selections quite like Scarlet Ember and Sunshine Bubbles. This week Jordan checks out the 1980s adaptation of the world's greatest detecting mind, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and Caitlin watches comedian Neal Brennan's standup/storytelling hybrid "3 Mics." How'd that work out? Answers, they await. Also this week! Thanks for listening, fam!

  • Episode 50: Terrace House and Ant-Man

    17/01/2017 Duração: 01h13min

The holidays are long gone, the dark days are here and your new BFFs need to keep it comfy as they wait for Spring, and there is nothing comfier than watching the Netflix/Fuji TV reality show Terrace House or Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. We do it for you, friends. Also this ep! Jordan can't wait for Young Pope, a trickle of Defenders news, Weird Al gets the respect he deserves and updates on what we've been checking out including Rat Queens and early offerings from the Winter 2017 anime season. As always, thanks for listening, friends!

  • Episode 49: Magic for Beginners and 20th Century Ghosts

    10/01/2017 Duração: 01h49min

Back like they left something, your new BFFs start 2017 attempting to better themselves by holding another irregular meeting of the Geekdown Book Club, giving a perusal to a pair of short story collections from 2005, Kelly Link's "Magic for Beginners" and Joe Hill's "20th Century Ghosts." How'd that play out? Answers within. Also this ep! Star Trek Discovery gets its Number One, the third season of Young Justice might get a little freer, Sanrio delivers 2017's spirit animal, updates on all the things we checked out over the break and so much more. Kind of supersized this week, friends. We hadn't seen each other in a month, sue us. Thanks for listening, please remember to rate and subscribe if you've yet to do so!

  • Episode 48: Talking Westworld

    03/01/2017 Duração: 44min

We're still on vacation! Because we felt like it! We thought we'd take the holiday to spend some time with another show everyone else has already exhausted, HBO's scifi puzzle box Westworld. We also talk about the additional philosophical differences between us we've noticed since starting the show, the perils and benefits of deep diving, and why nothing good ever comes of seeing Ed Harris. Back to format next week as we get extra nerdy with the first edition of the Geekdown Book Club! Thanks for listening, friends!

  • Episode 47: The Geekdown Year in Review 2016

    27/12/2016 Duração: 59min

This year was the drizzling shits, no one can deny that. But it wasn't without some things that brought us joy, so Sunshine Bubbles and Scarlet Ember are looking back on the first year of the Geekdown to pick the top three things they were brought this year, the best thing they watched together and the single worst thing they were forced to sit through. For all the ways 2016 was less than ideal, it's also the year we started this show, and we're continually humbled and grateful for all of you who listen to us natter on. Here's to the new year.

  • Episode 46: Christmas! Featuring A Muppet Christmas Carol and Die Hard

    19/12/2016 Duração: 43min

It's Christmas week! Shorter episode, no news, just a hang with your new BFFs. Oh, and we watched A Muppet Christmas Carol and Die Hard, just cause. Have an amazing holiday, friends! Thanks for spending part of it with us.
