Shut Up and Listen 3: David Leo Schultz
07/10/2015 Duração: 48minIt’s been a while since we shared a new episode of “Shut Up and Listen” but that is not a reflection on host Jim Gray or his work ethic. For this latest installment, Jim connects with actor, writer, and director David Leo Schultz. You may be familiar with David’s directorial work in Ragamuffin, the well-regarded Rich Mullins bio pic from 2014. He’s currently preparing to roll out a full length feature addressing the life of author and evangelist Brennan Manning. Jim and David share some laughs as they discuss the film industry, writing, ADD, and what it means to be a Christian navigating the Hollywood landscape. Amp'd Interview 10: Josh Wilson Says "Yes" with New Album
29/07/2015 Duração: 34minPerhaps we say this too much, but we really mean it this time: You are in for a treat today. For our latest Amp’d Interview, we brought on recording artist Josh Wilson to talk about his forthcoming album That Was Then This Is Now (July 31, 2015). Not only that, but we invited author (and occasional guest) Bonnie Gray to sit in as co-host for the interview. In fact, Bonnie did such a great job, Joe effectively just sat back and enjoyed the experience. We think you’ll do the same.Josh and company chat about the new album and play some word association games regarding some of the songs. They explore the themes of the album as represented in lyrics and as influenced by his own life experience – addressing specifically the idea of fear and the importance of saying “yes” when God calls us to serve his purpose. Oh, and he shares some pretty exciting news, too. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

2 Minute Music Review - Brothers McClurg - Home
20/07/2015 Duração: 03minOverviewAlbum: HomeArtist: Brothers McClurgGenre: Gospel, Roots RockLabel: SprigRelease Date: March 31, 2015Standout Tracks: “Still”, “Hem”, “Lord Lord Lord”ReviewIn 2012, a worship band out of Buffalo, NY, released an under-appreciated LP. Join the Sound by Brothers McClurg was released with little fanfare and, as one might expect, performed poorly. Subsequently, they were released by their label, and they retreated back to Buffalo to regroup.Fast forward three years. Chris and Anthony Hoisington, the brothers of Brothers McClurb, return to the scene with Home (and also a fine EP, Around the Mic). It represents a rededication to the legacy of music and their family’s musical heritage tracing back to The McClurg Family Singers (a southern gospel group led by Pastor Bill McClurg, their maternal grandfather). It’s not that the group had abandoned that sound for their prior album – it was just buried in arrangements. With the marketplace seemingly flooded with other acts jumping in on the roots-driven country

AMPD Interview 9 - Brothers McClurg
12/06/2015 Duração: 07minIn late February of this year, Joe sat down with Anthony and Chris Hoisington (and bevy of other fine individuals) and enjoyed an extended conversation with the group known as Brothers McClurg. Sadly, when we sat down a week later to edit the interview for a feature episode, tears welled up in our our eyes – after five minutes, the audio flat-lined, rendering most of the interview unusable (unless you like to hear a monotone buzz for 40 minutes…).The thing is, we really like these guys, and their music is great. Therefore, we made the decision to swallow our pride and share the small bit that we do have, because we want to get the word out about Brothers McClurg one way or another. So, although the episode is brief, it is still fun. Listen in, download their latest releases (Home and Around the Mic), and be sure tell a friend about the fresh new music you’ve discovered. AMPD Interview 8 - Drew Ley
15/05/2015 Duração: 20minThe Amp’d Interview is back after a brief hiatus. Back in January, we were introduced to Drew Ley (pronounced like “lye”) by our good friend Chris Olson, who communicated to us his enthusiasm for Drew’s forthcoming EP, Anchor. We quickly began to coordinate an Amp’d interview with Drew, but it took over three months to pull it together – through no fault of our guest.Hailing from Bossier City, Louisiana, this gentlemen speaks humbly about his craft as a songwriter and a performing artist, frequently referring to himself as an “amateur”. We beg to differ. It is clear that Drew takes his faith, worship leadership, and songwriting quite seriously and recognizes that it’s a lifelong journey and not a quick trip.Spend some time getting acquainted with Drew and his music in this eighth episode of our artist interview series. AMPD Interview 7 - Bonnie Gray Part 2
13/03/2015 Duração: 28minFirst things first: thanks to you all for making Part 1 of our interview with Bonnie Gray one of the most popular ever on Frequency. Of course, it’s no wonder. Bonnie’s compassion and authenticity are apparent, and her enthusiasm is engaging. For Part 2, we learn about her recent collaboration with visual artist Dee Kasberger of www.RedLetterWords.com, which quickly transitions into a discussion of current culture and its behavior towards artists. The latter half of this episode (after the music transition) turns personal and focuses on the topics of anxiety and PTSD. For folks acquainted with Bonnie’s book, Finding Spiritual Whitespace, this won’t be unfamiliar territory and is a key part of the journey. AMPD Interview 6 - Bonnie Gray Part 1
06/03/2015 Duração: 29minLast year, Bonnie Gray came to our attention by way of her excellent memoir-driven book, Finding Spiritual Whitespace. Our contributor, Mark Newton, loved it and wrote a glowing review. We followed up shortly thereafter with a two-part written interview. When offered the chance to catch up with Bonnie, we jumped at it.What started as a quick check-in with the writer behind www.FaithBarista.com became a wide-ranging interview about art, anxiety, and God’s grace. After 90 minutes of engaging conversation, we find in Bonnie a kindred spirit and an individual with an immense heart for her fellow artists. We’ll be sharing this in two parts, so listen in next week when part 2 is published. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

AMPD Interview 5 - Skylar Kaylyn
31/01/2015 Duração: 57sIn the middle of the December, 2014, an email arrived in the Frequency inbox from a young singer/songwriter by the name of Skylar Kaylyn. Before we ever listened to music from her sophomore release, In My Head, she had our interest. Why? Because this precocious 18-year-old is from Wheatland, Wyoming, a small town (pop. 3,652) in the southeastern corner of the state. And it just so happens that Joe is a graduate of Lovell High School in Lovell, Wyoming. No, the towns aren’t really near each other, but Wyoming is Wyoming, and Joe tends to get excited about these things. As it so happens, Skylar is talented and her album is quite good. That always helps. Tune in to the conversation and learn a bit more about our new friend from the Cowboy State and the intriguing way her album came together.By the way, Joe’s audio cut out once or twice during the conversation. Not enough to be a distraction, but in case you’re wondering why he doesn’t complete a thought, it has nothing to do with his mental stability… See acast.c
