13/06/2012 Duração: 38minI am currently the Director for Social Security Administrations's (SSA) Division of Eastern Regional Contracts. I have almost 30 years working for the Federal Government. I started my Federal career as a Student Engineer working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington WV District, Construction Division. One of the requirements at the University of Cincinnati, was for Engineering and Construction Management students to participate in the co-op program were we worked alternating quarters with a company in a field related to our major. After graduating in the mid 1980's with my Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management, I accepted a permanent position with the Huntington District where I was assigned as an Engineer/Inspector at the Yatesville Lake, KY dam site where we were building a new earth-filled dam and appurtenant bridges and roads. Other assignments in the early 1990's with the Corps of Engineers took me to Kuwait City Emergency Recovery Office's Construction Division to assi

She has over 18 years of government, industry, entrepreneurship, education, consulting, training and coaching experience. She is the author three writing journals to help others uncover, define goals and take action. As well as the author of two Reading is Fundamental approved children books “I Can Be Anything I Dream and Fun With Money” which help children learn about life and financial responsibility at an early age. She is also the founder of the early literacy program JustLikeUs which serves as a foundation for early literacy by getting children interested in books and reading by providing low income and the underserved with multicultural books with faces that look like their own . NABWIC Success Story: Cardozo H.S. / TransTech Academy
30/05/2012 Duração: 44minToday We Will Be Speaking With Shirley McCall and Shelly Karriem, educators at TransTech Academy. Ms. McCall is presently the Coordinator of the TransTech Academy at Cardozo High School. The program is designed to impart the values of higher education, constructive employment and careers in the various models of transportation. Ms. Karriem is currently the Director of the Academy of Construction and Design at Cardozo High School, a joint venture between D.C. Public Schools and the DC Students Construction Trades Foundation. The Academy teaches high school students construction trades, including: carpentry, electrical, plumbing as well as a certified "green building" curriculum. TransTech Academy currently features three career pathways; aviation/aeronautics, pre-engineering and electro-mechanical technology training.
